Spring 2025 Project Vacancies

We have open vacancies for several part-time projects to be run during the spring term of 2025.

Information about the projects we are recruiting for, and information on how to apply, is given below.

[20th December update]. Confirmation of funding for 2 of our 3 planned spring projects is still delayed, but we’re pleased to announce that we can go ahead and recruit for the 3rd. To allow for this, we’ve extended the closing date for applications, and have included provisional details of all our projects on the application form.

Thanks for your patience with us. We hope this will give everyone who wants to apply the chance to put in their best application.

The Projects

We hope to offer posts for 3 projects to run across the spring, provisional on contract confirmation:

  • Development of bytecode analysis tools and GitHub mining tools, to gather market data for a pre-seed University of Manchester spin-out. Target start date: 27th January 2025
  • Development of an Android app to support shop-floor diagnosis of an industrial process. Target start date: 27th January 2025
  • Development of a web-based tool to support a clinical trial of a treatment advisor tool for oncologists. Target start date: 3rd March 2025

How to Apply

The deadline for applications is: 11.00pm GMT on Monday, 6th January 2025. (Note that this has been extended since originally advertised.)

To apply, log in to your University of Manchester Office 365 account and complete the following form: https://forms.office.com/e/eafyqviJMg

Note that the form closes for applications at the deadline.

You will need to use your University of Manchester Office 365 account to submit a response to the form.

Applicants are asked to submit an up-to-date CV, showcasing your skills and experience. Your CV can optionally provide links to your personal portfolio of projects, to showcase your abilities.

Appointments to the posts will primarily be made on the basis of an interview, but in some cases, we may make an offer based on the CV and application alone.

Employment with Imago is subject to confirmation of the applicant’s right to work in the UK, and a willingness to comply with University staff policies on ownership of IP and non-disclosure of confidential information.

Details of the Posts

The projects will run across semester 2 in 2025, with 4-12 posts being offered, depending on confirmation of funding. The exact start dates will differ for each project, but we aim to start projects in week 1 of the second semester, where possible.

The typical post profile is for part-time work at 7 hours per week, across a period of 15 weeks.

The base pay rate will £12.70 per hour initially, rising to £12.86 per hour from March 2025 onwards, thanks to a University of Manchester-wide pay rise.

An additional holiday payment will be made on top of this, at a rate of 1 hour of holiday pay per 8.3 hours worked. Payment is made monthly in arrears, after submission and approval of timesheets recording the hours worked.

It is expected that the projects will be run on campus or at Sister/the Renold Innovation Hub, but with some scope for flexible and hybrid working. Each team will set their own core hours when all team members must be present and available for work (for example, for a weekly team meeting). Additional hours can then be worked at a time and place convenient to each team member.

The posts are open to any undergraduate student studying at the University of Manchester who is eligible to work in the UK. Note that students must be resident in the UK for the duration of the project (apart from weeks taken as holiday) to be eligible for the work.

We welcome applications from all University of Manchester undergraduates, from 1st year upwards. We especially welcome applications from members of groups who are currently under-represented in the software engineering profession.  We aim to recruit diverse teams for Imago, containing a mixture of experienced team members and inexperienced but talented junior team members.  Working for Imago is a great way to bootstrap your personal portfolio and add some real development experience to your CV.
